THE incredible mysteries of an ancient Central American civilisation who have predicted the end of the world could be locked away in temple burial chambers, according to boffins.
Kukulcan Pyramid, in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, has gripped people searching for some of history’s greatest secrets since Spanish adventurers cut through the jungle in the 1500s.
But, centuries later, eggheads may be close to making huge breakthroughs following careful examinations of the temple.
Experts found secret passageways in the huge stone structure – one of which leads to a an underground cave filled with fresh water.
The region is filled with the natural wonders and are used as swimming spots for tourists.

But the Mayans believed they were holy places where they could communicate with the gods.
Scientists have, however, found human bones in some of the pools – meaning they could have sacrificed their own people to the deities.
Modern doomsayers claim mythical planet Nibiru could unleash the apocalypse on Earth in a similar event to what the ancient culture believed would end them.
Researcher Guillermo de Anda said about the discovery: “Through the burial chamber we can enter the cave beneath the structure and there we found a blocked passageway, probably closed off by the ancient Mayans themselves.

“We will enter again and this time we will try to open it to see if the passageway leads us to the entrance of the denote beneath the pyramid.”
The doomsday prediction was made after it was discovered the Mayan Calendar’s long 5,126-year-long cycle would end.
But astronomers and scientists were quick to blast the doomsday scenario and branded it as pseudoscience.
