Heartwarming Moment: Queen Abi the Kangaroo Hugs the Ranger Who Saved Her as an Orphaned Joey 11 Years Ago

The Kangaroo Sanctuary Alice Springs has released a video of the moment kangaroo Queen Abi hugs the ranger that saved her as an orphan 11 years ago.

The footage, which has been seen by more than one million people since it was posted on June 11, shows ranger Chris ‘Brolga’ Barns being approached by a small kangaroo before leaning down and receiving a heartwarming embrace from her.

‘Queen Abi and I just loooove hugs,’ the caption on the video reads.

‘I rescued Abi as a tiny orphan baby about 11 years ago. Abi has always loved hugs. She is such a sweet and beautiful kangaroo.’

Brolga first established the baby kangaroo rescue centre in Alice Springs in 2005. He then went on to build his own wildlife sanctuary from 2009 to 2011.

According to the website the Kangaroo Sanctuary’s mission is to educate and encourage people to rescue and care for kangaroos, particularly those that are injured during highway accidents.

Social media was quick to praise Brolga’s sweet video and the incredible work he does in the outback.

One person wrote: ‘Should be compulsory… Roo hugging could be the answer to world peace.’

While another pointed out that all animals are usually this friendly given the chance.

‘Beautiful to see. Kindness for kindness. I have rescued many an injured wild bird or animal, some could have hurt me but never did. This roo is loving and enjoys the affection, unconditional love & respect,’ a woman wrote.

One person even pointed out that a sneaky kangaroo behind the hugging pair was stealing some food.

‘Beautiful hugs but is he a decoy as the other roo is helping himself to food behind you,’ they wrote.

Brolga replied: ‘Ha ha yes I saw that! Well after I watched the video anyway…’

The sanctuary shares a number of adorable videos on their Facebook feed and have almost amassed 250,000 likes.
