Along with another dog named Wonder, Stevie was rescued from a South Carolina backyard where he had most likely spent his first eight years tied up.
He was brought up by the Lancaster County SPCA, which collaborates closely with other rescue organizations including New York’s Diamonds in the Ruff. Diamonds in the Ruff felt they had to adopt Stevie as a part of their rescue clan as soon as they learnt about him.
Eventually, they also realized he had an old corn cob stuck in his intestines, and he had to undergo surgery to have it removed. On top of all of his medical issues, his foster family also had to be patient with him as he adjusted to life inside with a loving family.

“We understood he was only defending himself. He refused to exit the container when we took it into our house after arriving. Being aware that he couldn’t see and that we didn’t know him yet, we were extra cautious.
His foster family loved watching him experience so many firsts — including getting his very own bed for the first time.
Stevie’s foster family knew that he had likely never had a soft dog bed to sleep on before, so they made sure to give him one. As soon as he felt how soft it was with his paws, he was so excited and immediately started jumping for joy.
Stevie now needs to perform his little leaping dance whenever he sees a dog bed. He simply needs to show everyone how delighted he is every time since he is so overjoyed to have something that is supposed to make him feel snug and comfy.
Despite being blind, Stevie has adjusted extremely well to his foster home, and everyone is so impressed with just how far he’s come.
He is aware of how to use my little circular ottoman to climb onto my bed and how to wait for a reward in the kitchen when he enters. He spends a lot of time sleeping, but he also enjoys cuddling, walking, chewing on squeaky toys, and giving kisses.
He needs a home with no other pets, ideally with someone who is home a lot and can give him all of the attention he missed out on during his first eight years.
Boyd described the ideal partner as “[someone] who will just spend time cuddled up on the couch with him, take him on walks, let him enjoy the sun, and give him plenty of love.”
Stevie has been through a lot, but he is certain that everything will be well now that he has his cozy dog beds and lots of people who love him.
