For a baby gorilla who has lost his family, feeling safe can mean everything. For Bobga, an orphaned gorilla from Cameroon, that sense of security has come from the caring people who look after him every day.
Bobga is currently being cared for at the nursery of the Limbe Wildlife Centre, where dedicated staff are helping him recover and learn the skills he will need as he grows.
Among those caregivers is Alvin, who shared a particularly tender moment with the young gorilla. In heartwarming photos, Bobga can be seen cuddling closely against Alvin, appearing to find comfort in the warmth and protection of his caregiver.
Laura Craddock, the centre’s Fundraising and Communications Coordinator, explained that helping an orphaned gorilla feel safe and protected with their caregivers is an important part of rehabilitation.
But cuddles are only one small part of Bobga’s journey.
At the wildlife centre, he is encouraged to forage, play, climb, groom and explore his surroundings. Learning social skills and developing curiosity are also essential as he grows stronger and prepares for the next stages of his rehabilitation.
For Bobga, every day is an opportunity to learn something new. And sometimes, after everything he has been through, what he needs most is simply someone he can trust.
That quiet moment between Bobga and Alvin shows just how powerful compassion can be for a young animal who once had no one.
