Most parents would be terrified to see a giant snake wrapped around their young child. But for Jamie Guarino, the scene was simply another moment between his daughter and a family pet he had raised for years.
Guarino, a father from White Lake, Michigan, had cared for Nay-Nay, a Burmese python, since the snake was tiny. Over time, Nay-Nay grew into an enormous 13-foot reptile.
The controversy began when Guarino shared a video showing Nay-Nay interacting with his 14-month-old daughter, Alyssa. In the footage, the massive python slowly moves around the toddler while Guarino calmly talks to both of them in a playful baby voice.
For many viewers, however, the scene was anything but adorable. Watching a 13-foot python near a toddler immediately raised concerns about the child’s safety. The video sparked strong reactions, with many people questioning why a parent would allow such close contact between a huge constrictor and a small child.
Guarino, however, strongly defended his decision. He argued that people’s fear of snakes is deeply ingrained and said that those who criticized the interaction were reacting to what they had been taught to fear rather than to Nay-Nay’s behavior.
To Guarino, Nay-Nay was not a dangerous stranger but an animal he had known and cared for since it was extremely small.
Still, the footage left viewers divided. Was this an extraordinary bond between a child and a well-known family pet—or a risk no parent should take?
