At just three weeks old, a tiny raccoon named Jasper was found alone in the middle of a heavy downpour, barely clinging to life. After being abandoned by his mother, his chances of survival seemed painfully small.
Fortunately, Jasper was rescued by Long, the founder of Texas Fawn and Buddies, a sanctuary dedicated to caring for orphaned deer and other vulnerable animals.
At first, Long wasn’t sure Jasper would survive. But with constant care, treatment, and plenty of love, the little raccoon slowly grew stronger. Eventually, he became healthy enough to live on his own — yet he chose to remain at the sanctuary.
There, Jasper found himself surrounded by about 75 orphaned deer. And among all of them, one fawn captured his heart.
Her name was Hope.
Hope had also lost her mother when she was very young. Somehow, Jasper seemed to understand exactly what she had been through.
Whenever he spotted Hope, Jasper would hurry over, showering her with affectionate licks and staying close by her side. According to Long, Jasper simply adores her and seems determined to make sure she never feels alone.
What began with a helpless raccoon fighting for his own life turned into something unexpectedly beautiful: a friendship between two animals who had both experienced loss.
