An impala was chased by a pack of lions into muddy water, only to be attacked by a hippo in an incredible video filmed during a safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Hippos are territorial animals with a temper. While they primarily feed upon vegetation, they have no problem killing and even eating other animals, such as impala, wildebeest, and even other hippos. In fact, they are responsible for killing approximately 500 humans in Africa each year.
While lions have been documented attacking hippos, the big cats usually keep their distance.
In this case, the hippo’s territorial instincts brought an end to the impala’s life.
