Dodgers News: Chelsea, Freddie Freeman Donate $300,000 to Help Los Angeles Fire Relief | Dodgers Nation

The story begins with Maely Kate “MK” Carpenter, a six-year-old girl from Topeka who spent her final months in a children’s hospital battling a rare brain tumor. Despite endless treatments and sleepless nights, MK never stopped smiling. She loved sparkles, friendship bracelets, and — of course — baseball. But her favorite player in the world? Freddie Freeman.

“She said Freddie was like a superhero — but the quiet kind, who saves people without anyone noticing,” said one of the nurses who took care of her.

According to hospital staff, Freeman first heard about MK through a fan letter she’d written during her hospital stay. The message was simple: “If I can’t play baseball, maybe you can play for me.” Weeks later, Freeman showed up — quietly, without media, without cameras — and spent hours at her bedside reading stories, singing, and watching old Dodgers highlights with her.

Then, in a move that left everyone speechless, Freeman filed paperwork to become MK’s honorary guardian, ensuring she’d receive the best medical care possible and promising to cover every hospital bill until her final day.

Even those close to Freeman say he didn’t tell his wife at first.

“He just said, ‘I need to do this. She reminds me of my son.’”

After MK passed away, Freeman reportedly kept her favorite bracelet — a pink one with beads that spell out “HOPE” — in his locker.

“Every home run I hit now… it’s for her,” he said quietly after a recent game.

Fans have since dubbed him “Baseball’s Guardian Angel.” 💙
