Los Angeles, CA — Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman has once again proven he’s more than just a baseball star. On Saturday, Freeman officially unveiled “Star Haven”, a $5 million sanctuary dedicated to rescuing, housing, and rehabilitating stray dogs across Los Angeles.

The facility, built on sprawling land outside the city, will provide shelter, medical care, and adoption services for thousands of abandoned and neglected dogs. Freeman, who has long been an animal lover, said the project was inspired by his family’s own rescue pets.
“Baseball has given me so much, but I wanted to give something back — not just to fans, but to the voiceless,” Freeman said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Dogs bring us unconditional love. Now it’s our turn to return it.”
A Home for the Forgotten
Star Haven is designed with more than just kennels. It features large play areas, veterinary clinics, and even “family rooms” where potential adopters can spend time bonding with dogs before taking them home. The sanctuary will partner with local shelters and animal rescue groups, aiming to reduce overcrowding and prevent needless euthanasia in city facilities.
Teammates and Fans Show Support
Freeman’s Dodgers teammates, including Mookie Betts and Clayton Kershaw, attended the opening event with their families — some even bringing their own dogs along. Social media lit up with praise for the All-Star’s generosity, with fans calling him “a hero on and off the field.”
Beyond Baseball
While Freeman continues to chase another World Series with the Dodgers, he says his sanctuary will be his proudest legacy.
“Someday, my stats won’t matter. What will matter is that we gave thousands of dogs a chance at life and love,” Freeman said, holding back tears as rescue puppies ran around the stage.
With Star Haven, Freddie Freeman has proven that champions aren’t only made on the baseball field — sometimes, they’re made in the quiet act of giving a home to those who need it most.
