Chicago — In a touching event staged like a movie set, the world’s tribute to Chicago Cubs legend Ryne Sandberg is drawing attention. The event is not only a moment of remembrance, but also a powerful message about the indomitable spirit of Chicago baseball.
According to the Cubs, a public memorial service will be held on Gallagher Way on August 22, where fans will be able to watch Sandberg’s private funeral service live on a big screen. This is an opportunity for the entire city to join in the grief and bid farewell to “Ryno” as a real Cub.
The kiss is called a Hollywood-style Memorial, because the ceremony will not only have the presence of fans but will be solemnly organized as a global television program. Multiple sources revealed that there will be surprise appearances from MLB legends to honor Sandberg – an emotional twist and a “final farewell” that will resonate not only within Cubs Nation but throughout the baseball community.
For the first time since Sandberg’s death in late July, the Cubs held a special tribute before the first game at Wrigley Field, including a video tribute and 23 seconds of silence – the legend’s jersey number.
MLB Network and many other networks also made reports praising Sandberg’s timeless contributions.
“Throughout his career, Sandberg has proven to be more than just a genius on the field – he has also been a role model of character, drive and loyalty,” Cubs President Tom Ricketts said in a tearful speech. “That spirit will live on in the hearts of every Cub.”
This “Hollywood-style” event is even more meaningful as it takes place on Gallagher Way – the exact spot where Sandberg’s bronze statue will be unveiled in 2024, on the 40th anniversary of the legendary “Sandberg Game”.
