Jalen Hurts, the dynamic leader of the Philadelphia Eagles, has taken a powerful step off the field to invest in the future of his city’s children. Committing over $1 million of his own money, Hurts is funding the construction of a series of modern, fully equipped playgrounds in some of Philadelphia’s most underserved communities.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with local nonprofits and city officials, is designed to provide safe recreational spaces where kids can play freely, socialize, and develop healthy lifestyles. Each playground will feature inclusive equipment for children of all abilities, along with shaded seating areas for parents and caregivers.

Speaking about his decision, Hurts said, “Growing up, I learned a lot on the playground—not just about sports, but about teamwork, friendship, and believing in yourself. Every child deserves a place where they can have fun and feel safe, no matter their circumstances.”
Construction on the first playground is already underway, with several more planned over the next two years. Community leaders have praised Hurts’s generosity, noting that access to safe play spaces can significantly improve children’s physical health, mental well-being, and social skills.
For Philadelphia’s youth, Hurts’s gift is more than just swings and slides—it’s an investment in joy, hope, and the belief that their futures matter.
