Meet Vayu (pronounced Vaa-YUW). We’ve been working quietly to rescue this elephant, and we can finally share an update! Vayu has a badly broken left front leg, which has healed poorly and causes him significant pain.

We learned about him during our recent medical outreach clinics in Assam, where the injured bull was in musth and chained to a tree.

Vayu is scared, nervous and has never been on a truck before, so loading the elephant in our ambulance and getting him on the road has been a challenge for our team.

We’re thrilled to tell you we are on our way to our Elephant Hospital Campus! The journey will take at least 4 or 5 days and the bull must stand in the ambulance, so we will be making frequent rest stops for him. We will share more info about Vayu over the coming days of travel.
