Organized dog fighting, besides being illegal in most countries, constitutes an inhumane act filled with pure cruelty. The dogs most commonly used for this type of activity are Pit Bulls, especially young ones.
Fortunately, several public shelter workers followed his trail and although they did not know where the 2-year-old dog came from , they did look for a place to take him and called an organization to provide the dog with the care he needed and that is how The Pits Dog Rescue came into the animal’s life.
The dog was taken to a veterinary center to examine its wounds and they determined that it was used as ‘bait’ , this is the classification given to dogs used for training, that is, those that do not fight in confrontations, but are used as a punching bag.
“He was a stray, so unfortunately, the people who did this got away with it,” says Andrea Malley Sowieja, communications director for It’s The Pits. “Triumph is a sweet and loving boy, who has such a goofy personality that you can’t help but fall in love with him. He loves to cuddle and kiss, and he especially loves belly rubs ,” she added.
With the organization, he learned to overcome his fear, play with humans, interact better with other dogs, and he loved toys. He’s now in a foster home , learning new things, spending time with his canine companions, and waiting for someone to adopt him.
“He’s happy going for walks, but he’ll be just as happy playing in the backyard, followed by cuddling on the couch, of course,” says Malley Sowieja. “Triumph is very homey,” she emphasized.
“ Triumph needs a family that respects his past traumas , while fostering his trust and, of course, providing unconditional love,” said Malley Sowieja. “In the rescue world, it can often be frustrating and depressing, but Triumph is a great reminder of why we do what we do.”
