For many people, dogs are little four-legged guardian angels who are there to make our world happier and friendlier. Unfortunately, some people keep pets without giving them the attention they need .

Fortunately, she was spotted by rescuers from the World Animal Awareness Society , who did an excellent job saving the puppy’s life. Cathy Gray was one of the first volunteers , stealthily and cautiously approaching the dog with the sole intention of helping her

Upon examining her, they noticed that her condition was more delicate than she appeared; she had serious wounds and mange all over her body . They also found an embedded cord that was increasing the little dog’s pain. They examined her mouth and saw that her adult teeth were barely growing.

After a brief but delicate examination, someone from the Michigan Humane Society was called to assist with the case ; the dog needed immediate medical attention. Upon arrival, one of the representatives placed a leash around her neck and allowed her to be picked up without any problems.

The little dog deep down felt like she was being rescued and felt safe.

Once at the Michigan facility, they were able to examine her in more detail. The little dog had internal parasites and demodectic mange with a severe skin infection . Fortunately, she was rescued in time and responded very well to treatment.

Caregivers estimated that she was about 6 months old.

Despite everything the dog had been through, all she wanted to do was sleep. While under the care of her caregivers at the foundation, the dog slowly came out of her shell and proved to be very affectionate and playful.

Penelope was the name everyone decided to call her.

After a month, Penelope was already feeling much better. They decided she could be part of the Refurbished Pest of Southern Michigan prison program . The dog needs special care, so the program would be a great fit.

In the program, some dogs are taken from shelters and sent to prisons to be trained by inmates.

A month and a half later, Penelope was ready for three months of training at the Florence Crane Lakeland Correctional Facility . During the program, she learned basic recalls and many tricks to captivate her new owners.
