Joseph the lion, dubbed the ‘saddest lion in the world’, has been rescued from a tiny cage in Peru.
An animal conservation group has saved the lives of two malnourished and injured lions who were kept in tiny cages in a Peruvian circus.
The lions were found with their teeth smashed and claws clipped, as well as suffering from a range of other illnesses and conditions, such as blindness.
One of the lions, who the group have named Joseph, was found blind in one eye from cataracts, which was not treated by the circus owners.
But luckily for these two lions, they’re on their way to a happier life.
The pair were rescued by charity group, Animal Defenders International, after a month-long operation to locate them and 32 other lions who were being kept in cruel conditions.
Since their rescue, Joseph and his brother have been airlifted out of their terrible conditions and will be transported back to their home of South Africa, where they will be taken by the Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary.
