“f***ing monkey,” Justice speaks at last — Valladolid fans who hurled vile slurs at Vinicius sentenced, but is one year truly enough?

The fans who insulted Vinicius Junior have been handed a suspended prison sentence.

Previously, five Valladolid supporters were charged with insulting the Real Madrid winger on December 30, 2022. Toward the end of the La Liga matchday 15 game between Valladolid and Real Madrid, the accused shouted slurs at Vinicius — including “son of a b****,” “f***ing monkey,” and “fing f****t” — as the Brazilian was being substituted and walking toward the bench.

It was reported that the defendants accepted a one-year prison sentence, a four-year ban from attending matches, and fines ranging from €1,080 to €1,620.

According to Marca, the provincial court of Valladolid has officially announced the sentence. However, the prison term was suspended, as the accused agreed not to reoffend or attend national matches for the next three years.

This case marks the first time in Spain that racist behavior in a stadium has been legally classified as a hate crime by a court.
