Real Madrid have lost their last three games when benching Raul Asencio, against Athletic Club, Espanyol and now against Betis

It was a surprise to see that Carlo Ancelotti once again decided to bench the powerful defender against Betis.

According to Marca, Ancelotti was experimenting to see if David Alaba is fit enough to compete in high-intensity games. The plan was to start him against Atletico Madrid in midweek.

However, the plan backfired as Real Madrid’s defence looked weak and shaky with Alaba. They conceded a lot of set pieces, allowing one to go in before Rudiger clumsily conceded a penalty.
It’s expected that Asencio will start for Real Madrid in the Champions League game against Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.
