Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji will miss 8 to 10 weeks of action after being forced to undergo surgery on Saturday for an abductor injury.

Pep Guardiola provided an update on the Swiss defender’s situation following his half-time withdrawal against Real Madrid, revealing: “Surgery on Saturday. 8 to 10 weeks out. His abductor is broken.”

Guardiola expressed his gratitude for Akanji’s commitment this season, stating, “We wish the best recovery for Manu because the effort he has done this season has been unbelievable. Him and Nathan Ake have played in difficult conditions, not being in top shape, to help the team in the emergency we had with a lack of players we had in the centre-back position.”
Guardiola added, “In the end, the body said, ‘enough is enough’.”
Akanji has played 29 matches for Manchester City this season, contributing one assist.
