A Cry for Compassion: Elephant Calls for Help After Witnessing an Antelope Struggle in the Water

Elephant to the rescue? Wildlife is no game, larger animals get in the way of smaller or weaker ones. But a scene that could have been horror ended in the most moving moment, when an elephant began to scream and tried to help an antelope that had fallen into a well of water.

A curious and moving moment was experienced by tourists and workers at the La Aurora Zoo , Guatemala City, when a pachyderm began to scream in despair and even tried to use its trunk to help a companion in trouble.

Do elephants scream? Anyone could ask themselves and the truth is that, although they do not sound like a human scream, these mammals are capable of producing sounds compared to the act of screaming.

The man did not think about it and entered the artificial pond to help the antelope in distress. Meanwhile, the elephant watched and seemed to understand that everything would be under control. His anxiety subsided, thus demonstrating his complete understanding of the situation.

The woman shared the recording on her social networks, without imagining the commotion this would cause. More than one follower was shocked by the elephant’s solidarity.

In the recording, the pachyderm is seen walking back and forth along the edge of the pond and on more than one occasion he appears to offer his trunk to the antelope so that it could get out. However, amidst the cuckold’s desperation, they were unable to complete the maneuver.

However, the nerves of the elephant, which the veterinarian identified as Trompitas, caused the whole scene. It was not because of evil, but the pachyderm has established a bond with the antelopes.

“Trompita is 60 years old and has been at the Guatemala Zoo for 14 years. She was rescued from a local circus where she was raised and forced to perform routines,” Striedinger said.

We are happy to know that the incident did not escalate and we are also fortunate that such a scene of solidarity was recorded for later. There is no doubt that animals are more intelligent and caring than many humans imagine.
