Fabio Coentrao, former teammate and close friend of Cristiano Ronaldo at Real, was urgently arrested by Portuguese police on charges of smuggling.
When he was playing football, Coentrao started his career at Rio Ave Club and he played as a left back. Although 3 years younger than Ronaldo , the former Portuguese player born in 1988 played his last professional match 3 years ago. That also means, he retired from his “shorts” career when he was only 33 years old.
When he was Ronaldo’s teammate at Real, Coentrao won 9 titles in 7 years of dedication to the Spanish Royal team (from 2011 to 2018). Among these are 2 La Liga championships and 2 Champions League crowns. After retiring, Coentrao bought a fishing boat, with renovation costs alone costing nearly $3 million.
However, Fabio Coentrao was recently arrested for smuggling more than a ton of seafood at a warehouse in Povoa de Varzim fishing port. Along with that, the fishing boat was confiscated by Portugal’s Directorate General of Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services (DGRM).
DGRM inspectors found 12 tanks filled with seawater containing more than 1 ton of seafood, mostly lobsters and crabs. Worth mentioning, Coentrao could not provide documents showing the capture and transportation of these seafood. According to an inspector, they are coordinating with the police to expand the investigation with Coentrao and other suspects.
