Ragnar, the Starving Puppy Weighing Just 18 Kilos, Clings to Life and Finds Hope in a Loving Rescue

A supportive neighbor from the city of Elche, in Alicante, Spain, rescued a mastiff dog on the verge of collapse and his story has an entire country in suspense. The anonymous hero found the creature at the facilities of the Urbaser cleaning company and upon noticing its terrible condition decided to help it.

His body of just 18 kilograms suffers not only from malnutrition, but also from a painful abscess in his ear and face, areas in which worms would have harbored due to the infection.

The usual weight of these animals is around 60 kg but Ragnar is much below that and his condition is really critical.

Fortunately, the man who rescued him decided to take him to Hondon de las Nieves and later contacted Huellas Salvadas Animal Protection Association of Elche. There they took care of the puppy and transferred it to another veterinary center for further studies.

Specialists do everything possible to save his life but the truth is that much of the work corresponds to this warrior, whose name has been conceived in honor of the legendary Norse king, Ragnar Lodbrok

Ragnar is out of critical condition but remains in the veterinary center under 24-hour supervision, which implies more expenses. In addition, today a CT scan was performed but people’s hearts have not been limited and donations have begun to arrive.

As they commented today: “Ragnar has been calmer and it was not necessary to put him to sleep for his scan.” It seems that this little boy has been able to recognize that those people around him are only trying to help him and that his life of terror is over.

For the moment, doctors must perform a biopsy, because in addition to the infection, the dog has a mass of cells in his head and they must rule out any tumor. Based on the results, the doctors will establish what path to take and while this happens the call is to collaborate as much as possible with Ragnar.

Please share his story and help us spread the word about his case, he wants to hold on to life but he needs all of us. Share and inform, every little bit counts!
