The senior bobcat, a medium-sized lynx, managed to climb to the top of a very tall utility pole. However, although he climbed up, he didn’t move at all, either because he didn’t want to come down or because he couldn’t.
It appears that the power was temporarily shut off and a major rescue operation was carried out to rescue Bobcat.
The New Mexico Game and Fish Department rushed to the scene, determined the bobcat needed help getting it safely back to the ground, and teamed up with the El Paso Power Company to carry out the rescue operation.
The rescue operation appeared to go very smoothly and the bobcat was safely removed from the utility pole as local residents looked on.
The caged bobcat was reportedly released in the Lake Valley area of the Gila National Forest.
It’s fairly common for felines to climb up high and become unable to get down, but in the case of the bobcat, if they were serious, they might have been able to get down.
In a similar incident in Florida in 2019, when an aerial vehicle was used to rescue the bobcat, the bobcat descended on its own with its claws caught in a utility pole.
