The Stray Dog Who Never Forgot the Man Who Gave Him a Home, Keeping His Love Forever

Few could forget the images of this faithful dog whose family moved and left him behind. For a month, Boo continued to cling to his owner’s bed, amid a pile of broken promises.

Fortunately, Mike Diesel, founder of Detroit Youth and Dog Rescue, heard about the lonely dog’s plight.

“He was just laying there, ever faithful,” Diesel told The Dodo in October. “The pillows were still on the mattress. Being the loyal dog he was supposed to be, he waited for his master to come back.”

It took 15 hours — and a trail of fried chicken and burgers — before Boo finally gave up on his former family and decided to give Diesel a chance.

Though his loyalty may have been entirely misplaced, the dog found new hope in the kindness of man… and sausage McMuffins.

At that moment, Diesel made him a promise: everything is going to be okay.

Shortly after, Diesel found a foster home. And it was a happy failure. The woman, who also lives in Detroit, couldn’t let him go and will soon formally adopt him.

“She’s home with him 90 percent of the time and he’s just enjoying his new life and freedom,” Diesel tells The Dodo today.

And of course, the food is an improvement.

“Boo eats roast chicken and filet mignon regularly and is beyond spoiled,” Diesel adds.

He is still receiving heartworm treatment, but with a family supporting him, it is no longer an uphill battle.

“His recovery is going well,” Diesel notes. “And his energy level has increased a lot now that he’s feeling better.”

But Boo keeps a light on for the very special friend he made on that cold sidewalk in October.

Diesel doesn’t disappoint.

“I’ve been able to visit him a lot and that makes me happy,” Diesel says. “I’ve probably visited him six to eight times and he’s more than happy with his new life.”

And somehow, he’s even happier when his special friend comes to visit, the man who kept his promise to the letter and made sure everything turned out okay.
