In mid-February, tire repairmen Ozimar Queiroz and Lindomar Queiroz were surprised to arrive early to work at the tire repair shop located on Estrada do Belmont, in the northern area of Porto Velho. This was due to an abandoned dog on the side of the road. The docile creature was thin, had its legs spread apart and could not walk.
When Ozimar, also known as Galego, heard about the dog’s situation, he made a conscious decision to care for him until he could find a family to adopt him. However, it’s been 20 days and the dog still doesn’t have a permanent home.
“They dumped him in front of the store. We came in the morning and he was there. We felt sorry for him, we put him here and we are feeding him, but the poor thing is there in this situation. He doesn’t want to walk because his two front legs are turned backwards,” she said.
Because of his position on the board, the dog was affectionately named Seal, as he is unable to move because both of his legs are spread out. The tire mechanics move him several times during the day, but the dog ends up crawling through the mud to interact with the only pet available, a stray cat that hangs around the tire shop.
According to Lindomar Queiroz, the dog is docile and needs veterinary care, but he cannot afford it.
“Because of his appearance, we called him seal. He was very thin when we caught him, but he is already gaining weight because we are feeding him. He is dirty from the rain, but we don’t care here,” Lindomar says.
The dog’s abandonment has gained attention on social media and Foca has already been adopted by a couple from Porto Velho.
The tyre repairmen who discovered the pitbull on the road took care of him for almost three weeks, providing him with food and water. At first they called him “Foca”, but Michele took him in and permanently changed his name.
“It was love at first sight. I was very touched by his condition. He was already defenseless, but he was even more so because he was so docile and affectionate. I fell in love with him,” said his new mother. “I love him. I am speechless. I love him so much. The feeling of being a mother.”
