There are many superheroes, and we’re not talking about Marvel superheroes. There are other real-life heroes, the kind that don’t wear capes, like a 26-year-old who has performed the greatest act of bravery and love by saving the life of a dog.

As a result, he broke several fingers and fractured a wrist when he picked up the innocent animal.

The 112 emergency telephone line received a call at 4:30 p.m.: a dog was hanging from a fourth floor, half of its body was outside and was about to fall into the void.

Immediately, SPEIS (Fire Prevention, Extinction and Rescue Service) officers and two Local Police patrols arrived at the scene to save the dog, but it was too late…

The dog had already fallen, but was alive.

Firefighters and police officers were shocked to think they hadn’t arrived in time. However, when they got closer they saw the dog surrounded by people. It was a cross between a Dalmatian and an American Stanford, with scratches on one paw.

What they saw next, they could not believe. The young hero lay beside him, complaining of severe pain in his arm and hand. That day, he was his angel and savior.

Witnesses told officers that the young man had reacted quickly, managing to catch the dog in the air and prevent it from hitting the ground, despite its large size.

An incredibly heroic action. The neighbours and passers-by applauded and congratulated the rescuer and now the City Council wants to award him a decoration to reward him for his gesture.

“With his quick and effective rescue he managed to save the dog’s life, as well as showing himself to be a great citizen, since with this action he put his life at risk and was injured,” said the Councillor for Security, José Ramón González.

For its part, the Canine Unit of the SPEIS Fire Department took charge of the dog and carried out an inspection of the balcony together with the local police officers. The injured person’s arm was immobilized and he was then taken to the hospital.

After everything that had happened, it was the same officers who, upon witnessing such an act of bravery, proposed to the Local Police and the City Council that the young man be publicly recognised on the occasion of the ‘Local Police Day’.

They said that the fall from a fourth floor would have had very serious consequences for the dog “and with his heroic intervention this citizen managed to save the animal’s life”.

Finally, the Department of Security of the Alicante City Council and the Police Headquarters have proudly accepted to grant him such recognition.
