A helpless dog travels 600 kilometers by plane to be loved and protected in the last moments of her life. It was a long journey, but she needed to make that trip so as not to leave for heaven without the warmth of someone who loves her unconditionally.
She spent most of her life at the New England Humane Society. She was very sweet and loving, but for some strange reason no one seemed willing to give her the opportunity she so desperately needed. Sadly, she was left behind as she watched the other dogs at the shelter leave to start a new life of happiness with their family.
After many years, the Foundation’s employees began to notice that something was wrong with Ashlyn’s health. The dog was very weak and barely had enough energy to eat.
They took her to a vet and there they found out that her problems were much more serious than they had imagined.
The dog had terminal cancer and there was an alarming number of tumors growing all over her body. Given her delicate state of health, the veterinarians did not give her a chance.
She only had a couple more weeks to live, but the rescuers decided that they would not let her leave this world without knowing the wonders that every dog deserves.
They found a family willing to give him love during his final days, but the problem was that they were more than 600 kilometers away. There was no time to lose, so they contacted Paul Steklkenski.
This dedicated pilot is the founder of Flying Fur Animal Rescue. From the moment she stepped onto the plane, sweet Ashlyn had a blast. Paul gave her treats whenever he saw her nervous and a couple of hours later he handed her over to her new mom, Tracy Lancer.
She has managed to get the delicate dog to gain weight and be full of energy again. She doesn’t know exactly how much time she has left, but what they do know is that she is now happy and loves giving kisses to her new family.
We hope that the beautiful Ashlyn can continue to enjoy all the love she receives in her new home. It is a shame that she had to spend her entire life in a shelter.
