Residents discover an unexpected visitor peeking out of a manhole, creating an emotional moment of surprise and tenderness

As the founder of Logan’s Legacy, Suzette Hall aims to save as many dogs as possible in the Los Angeles area.

The pup, a 6-month-old golden retriever mix, hid discreetly under a residential neighborhood for weeks before anyone noticed her. Most people walked past her without noticing, until one day, a dog lover spotted her and refused to leave her alone.

Everyone came with the best of intentions, but their presence made the already frightened pup even more terrified.

“She would come out of the sewer and look, but as soon as someone tried to help her, she would run back in,” Hall said. “She was so far out, at least 18 feet down.”

They waited more than two days for the dog to emerge from the drain again. When the hungry pup finally appeared, the team covered the hole instantly.

The rescue team breathed a sigh of relief that the dog, later named Cora, couldn’t get back into the hole. But Hall felt a pang of sadness for her.

With her hole off-limits, Cora hid under a car to feel safe. The team used baby gates to block off the underside of the car, then Hall slipped a noose over her head.

After a long, happy cry, Hall picked up Cora and took her straight to Camino Veterinary Hospital.

Cora received a clean bill of health shortly after her arrival and a much-needed bath. Then, she was officially ready to be cared for by a foster family.
