A long time ago, the control authorities spotted a furry animal in a forest. It was wearing a large leather belt attached to a chain and was also tied to a tree.
The little animal was lying among the bones and looked very scared. Judging by the scenery, someone had put him there with the express purpose of killing him. He had no food or drink in his hand.
“When we found him, we were sure that his previous existence had been very painful,” said Courtney Bello, director of animal rescue and rehabilitation at Sennar.
Stewart called him and took him to a shelter. The first few days of any puppy in a shelter are usually difficult, but Stuart’s case was particularly terrible. He spent the whole day hunched over in a corner.
Every time someone tries to get close to him, he just backs away, growls and hides his little head. These are all strong signs that he was treated unfairly and unpleasantly. He was so scared that no one could get that heavy leather collar off him.
It can be very difficult for a puppy in these conditions to find a permanent home. However, volunteers were eager to help him. They decided to try to give him more time and space, but nothing worked.
He was barely eating and they couldn’t get him to the vet. That’s when Courtney decided to anesthetize him for the transfer and run a series of tests on him.
The vet gave him some treatment so he could start to regain his strength. Courtney took advantage of the moment when the furry one was under anesthesia to remove those terrible jewels.
When Stuart woke up and felt free of that enormous burden, his behavior changed forever. He first ventured to look at the volunteers and seemed willing to try to interact with them.
“That belt around his neck was a weight of his history. When we took it off, he started to open up and even wagged his tail,” Courtney recalls.
Someone probably heard Stewart’s sad sighs and gave up. Thankfully, this furry friend stood up to the greatest rescuers and now there’s no doubt he’ll make a full recovery.
We don’t know what this little dog had to go through to scare people so much, but every act of love the rescuers give him will help him put his terrible past behind him.
