“Oh my… Are you ok?” – Driver Parks and Discovers a Fragile Pair of Wings Sticking Out From the Car, Leading to a Heartwarming Rescue

The other day, a young red-tailed hawk named Jersey was flying near a busy road in Kingston, New York, when she mistakenly wandered too close to a car and got trapped inside the car grill.

Once at their destination, the car’s driver noticed Jersey’s wings desperately poking out from the metal. They quickly called North Country Wild Care for help.

Soon, an experienced wildlife handler was on the scene, ready to do whatever possible to get Jersey to safety.

The rescuer gently removed the bird from where she was stuck, then she put Jersey in a carrier and transported her to the wildcare center for further evaluation.

Animal experts were pleased to find that Jersey’s injuries were relatively minor and treatable. In time, Jersey moved to an outdoor enclosure, where she made friends with another rescue hawk who’s also recovering from a car-related incident.

“The break is not a complicated fracture, so [it] should heal up nicely,” wildlife rehabilitator Cara Huffman told The Dodo. “Once she is healed up, she will go to another rehabber with a larger flight cage to build up strength.”
