The stories that reach our ears of puppies left to their fate sadden us, but there are cases that are definitely unacceptable and the only thing we really hope for is that sooner or later justice will be done.
Volunteers found a 9-month-old pitbull mix puppy in such poor condition that they initially thought he had died.
Security cameras showed the moment a man got out of a dark-colored, hoodless, four-door sedan and threw the child into a sewer as if he were garbage on Northeast Okie Street.
But the most outrageous thing is that the shelter was just a few steps away. What would it cost them to go a little further and leave him in good hands so that he could be given all the care he needed?
The puppy was baptized as Shepherd.
He weighed less than 7kg, was starving and emaciated, suffered from mange and was so weak he could not walk and was barely breathing. The rescuer who found him said he must have been in the ditch for 12 long, agonising hours.
Now out of danger, a great destiny awaited him. Dog breeder Kim O’Keefe of Burke, Virginia, took him into her home as her own son, where she has done nothing but give him all the love and dedication he ever had.
Shepherd has gained 4 kilos and it is truly an achievement.
Best of all, Shepherd’s tail has literally not stopped wagging.
They just hope he makes a full recovery so they can find him a forever home.
“I think whoever ends up being lucky enough to adopt him will be super excited to have him in their family,” O’Keefe said.
However, one big mystery remains to be solved, and that is who could have done such evil to Shepherd? Clearly, whoever did it left him to perish and the police will now not rest until they find the culprit.
“We really hope we catch Shepherd’s evil owner,” shared Humane Law Enforcement Officer Shannon Rose. “It was unnecessary and it was an unfair deal.”
