The equine, which is about 15 years old, was found lying inside the 9-foot-deep pit and covered in a pool of fecal waste and mud after cops responded to a 911 call in the central city of Rosario on Saturday.
It took the police almost three hours to rescue a horse who was found abandoned inside a 9-foot-deep well in Rosario, Argentina on Saturday. Authorities said the horse, which was stuck in the pit for 10 hours, had a history of being abused
Police officer Carlos Pereyra was tasked with rescuing the horse, which ‘had difficulty breathing, had ingested fecal matter, and was exhausted’
The video showed the struggling horse slowly being lifted out of the well and placed on the grass as he moved his hind legs.
‘We had to act in an emergency, he had given up. We arrived with a mobile crane that we used to get go down,’ Pereyra explained. ‘We put the strap on him to be able to lift him and a muzzle so that he could get his head out of the liquids in which he was submerged. He couldn’t stand upright.’
The horse has been named Alexis, in honor of Argentina national team and Liverpool star Alexis Mac Callister because of the similarity in the red tone of their hair
Alexis is being cared for at a farm in hopes that someone will adopt him
Authorities said Alexis is blind in one of the eyes because he was beaten
‘A blow left him blind in one eye, he has abnormalities in all four limbs from dragging the cart at an early age and his blood vessels are deformed from being used on the brick stepping stone,’ Ojeda said.
